The amphitheatre that is the Premier League is soon set to lose three of its contenders in the coming weeks, as the bloody battle to stay in the top flight of English football intensifies. This weekend sees fellow relegation zone dwellers Burnley and Leicester City pit against each other, neither considering any other outcome bar victory. The three points in this tie could effectively provide a life raft for one side while as good as condemning the other to a Championship fate.

Burnley haven’t won at Turf Moor since March 14, though with that victory coming against last season’s champions Manchester City, nothing can be ruled out just yet. Sean Dyche saw his men put to the sword by Everton in their last game, a match in which striker Ashley Barnes was sent off following two bookable offences. Barnes will miss the Leicester tie, though with only Kevin Long and Dean Marney injured absentees, Dyce has an almost full squad to choose from for this key clash.

The two teams played out a 2-2 draw in the league in early October, a match which saw Burnley salvage a point courtesy of a Ross Wallace stoppage-time equaliser. The clarets will be hard pushed to make similar fortune this time around, particularly as Leicester arrive having enjoyed a highly successful April thus far. Victories over West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City have breathed new hope into Nigel Pearson’s side. After last weekend’s Swansea clash, Pearson stated Leicester’s Premier League fate is in their own hands. With striker Leonardo Ulloa rediscovering his goalscoring touch, perhaps he has a point.
