The Portuguese midfielder signed for the club this week in a move which could be worth as much as £68m, once add-ons are factored in.
Fernandes comes with a big reputation having won the past two player-of-the-year awards in Portuguese football.
The Sporting midfielder, 25, is expecting to bring goals and assists to a United side that has been struggling in front of goal and is without the injured Marcus Rashford for at least another two months.
