From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Birmingham City's managing director Karren Brady has refuted claims that their midfielder Jermaine Pennant is on the verge of a £3.5m move to Liverpool.

Brady said the Blues have had no contact from Liverpool and would reject any approach as they bid to fight their way back into the Premiership.

Pennant has previously stated his intention to stay at St Andrews despite relegation last season and Brady said: "We want to get out of this division as soon as possible. Therefore we will be buying players and not selling them."

Iain Dowie faces the first battle of his Charlton career in trying to persuade Luke Young to stay at The Valley. The 26-year-old is unhappy at a perceived delay in talks over a new deal. Despite the offer of a lucrative contract, the defender has stated his intention to leave, with West Ham and Tottenham reportedly interested.
