Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

I know that I speak on behalf of most Bournemouth fans when I say that I am really excited for the visit of Manchester United on Saturday evening. Not just because it is United, but because I think we have a genuine chance of taking all three points against the Red Devils.
Firstly, Louis van Gaal's side are not in great shape. They looked awful against Wolfsburg midweek and having crashed out of the Champions League, they will be low on confidence. With Bastian Schweinsteiger banned now too, Eddie Howe will really be firing up the boys for this one.
More importantly though, is how we are looking at the moment. That incredible win at Stamford Bridge last weekend against the reigning Premier League champions could be matched by an even more historic home victory this weekend.
Classy Matt Ritchie will be desperate to impress, while I fancy Josh King to score in front of his former club. Score prediction: 1-0

Well, we're out of the Champions League, but at least we're scoring goals again.
It's time for Louis van Gaal to get real. The performances and results haven't been good enough recently and the ignominy of crashing out of Europe at the first hurdle should be offset by a charge towards the Premier League.
Of course, nothing is ever easy and Bournemouth are fresh off beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It's not an enjoyable time to be a United fan at all, but if there have been positives to take from the past few weeks, it's been the promise of Varela at right-back, Martial recapturing his scoring touch and Memphis starting to look like he's prepared to fight for his place (he was decent against Wolfsburg).
Eddie Howe's team are always a tough nut to crack, but I strangely have confidence that United will prise open their defence and win 2-0, with Martial getting on the scoresheet once again. This needs to happen, or we're staring at some serious problems heading into the busy festive period.
