Dennis Bergkamp will spend another season with Arsenal after agreeing a one-year contract extension with the Premiership champions.

Bergkamp, who turned 35 on Monday, was delighted to have extended his stay at the north London club. He said: "I am so pleased that I will be at Arsenal for another year. Next season will be my 10th with the club, and that just shows what Arsenal means to me."

The Dutch striker added: "We have a great squad and team spirit at the club, which we have proved by winning the Premiership this year. I hope I will be part of another successful campaign for Arsenal next season."

The Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, said: "We are delighted that Dennis is staying with us for another season. He has once again showed throughout this year what an important part of our squad he is. Dennis is a great professional and I know his experience and natural ability will continue to help us greatly next season."

Bergkamp, who has scored five goals in 37 appearances this season, signed for Arsenal in 1995 for £7.5m after a disappointing spell in Italy with Internazionale. He has helped Wenger's side to win the Premiership three times and also scored 36 goals in 79 games for the Netherlands.

Wenger, meanwhile, still believes his team can improve next season. "I feel we can get better and better. That is my target," he said. "I am happy because we have won the Premiership title and the FA Cup three times since I have been here. We have been consistent, we have kept the results going and the quality has risen."
