Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

During United's match against Swansea at Old Trafford in August, video footage appeared to show a bird dropping enter the mouth of Young as he berated his team-mates.
Young, 29, has always denied that the delivery from above was a bird poo, and in an interview published today by The Guardian, Young has again spoken of the incident, and he is now hoping to find out who put the clip out there. The footage emerged on social media immediately during that match, which United lost 2-1.
"I can, 100%, absolutely confirm it was not bird poo," he said. "But I'd love to know who put that video out and how they did it. Or what my reaction might have been if it actually was."
His team-mate Luke Shaw revealed last week that Young has been the joke of the United changing room since the incident, with United players even hanging a fake bird above his peg.
"Ashley Young is the joker in the dressing room. We still laugh about the time he got bird poo in his mouth against Swansea," said Shaw in an exclusive interview with Match of the Day magazine.
"If you ask him now, he'll say it wasn't bird poo. In the changing room we hung a fake bird above his place as a joke which he didn't like."
