Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat against Chelsea could have been a completely different result had Unai Emery’s forwards finished some of their best chances.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi were all guilty of missing glorious opportunities which they should really be scoring.
Pedro gave Chelsea an early lead, then Aubameyang missed a shot from the penalty spot after the ball was cut back to him. One minute later, Alvaro Morata doubled the home side’s lead.
Arsenal eventually got back into the game through Mkhitaryan and Iwobi, but Marcos Alonso sealed the three points for Chelsea with a late strike.
The result, Arsenal’s second defeat in a row, left many fans frustrated, but none more so than Matteo Guendouzi. The young midfielder’s pass found Hector Bellerin who pulled the ball back for Aubameyang in the first half, but he skied his effort way over the bar.
The 19-year-old fell to his knees and summed up the frustration at Arsenal.
The Gambon forward took to Twitter to apologise for his misfires. “Today I missed, tomorrow I must be better!!”, he wrote.
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright responded: “I still love you” after explaining he shared Guendouzi’s frustrations. “It’s good to see someone who’s disappointed like that,” he said on Match of the Day.
