Aaron Ramsey has ended the debate as to whether he meant the assist for Alexandre Lacazette’s goal against Manchester United last weekend as the Arsenal midfielder finally believes his injury-prone body has adapted to the rigours of the Premier League.

The Welshman has emerged as a key figure of the Gunners’ midfield this season following the shift to three at the back with Ramsey experiencing one of his best seasons injury-wise as well.

Ramsey’s season last year was ravaged by injuries meaning his form often dipped from the heights of his Euro 2016 campaign, but this year he is back to his best and has so far contributed five assists – more than any other Arsenal player – and three goals.

It is his latest assist which was called into question though, but Ramsey insists he fully intended to touch the ball back to Lacazette to score.

“I was going to take a touch but out of the corner of my eye I saw De Gea coming out, Lacazette was up there so I just knocked it back to him,” he told the Evening Standard. “Hopefully that puts an end to that debate.”

Ramsey is currently one of the Arsenal players clearly benefitting from the club’s participation in the Europa League, meaning he and the rest of the first XI are only playing once a week.

And it is this added recuperation which is seemingly helping the 26-year-old rid himself of the frustrating muscular injuries that so often disrupts his season.

“I know what I’m capable of doing, I just want to stay fit and healthy and let my football take care of itself,” he added. “I’ve been putting everything out there and hopefully it will continue.

“I have adapted my body to the load of playing in the Premier League and am building up that fitness gradually. I’ve felt really good so far and hopefully that’ll continue for a long time now.”
