The Arsenal manager spoke to the press on Thursday morning ahead of the crucial Premier League top-four shootout on Saturday morning, with the lunchtime kick-off set to be a pivotal match in determining the Premier League's Champions League qualifiers for next season.
Wenger revealed the latest injury troubles he is having to cope with, as the England striker is the latest to have suffered injury at a crucial time for the north London side.
Welbeck has a chance of facing Liverpool this weekend should he recover from the knee injury he picked up during the Three Lions’ 4-0 win over Lithuania last Friday, which caused him to miss the 1-1 draw with Italy on Tuesday as he was sent back to Arsenal for treatment.
"He's an important player who scores goals and contributes to the team. Technically he has matured,” Wenger added.
The return of key players such as Wilshere, Debuchy and Arteta comes at an important time for the Gunners, whose intentions of securing a top-four finish have now materialised into a charge at the top-two and an unlikely title challenge.
Their own strong form, which has produced six straight league wins and nine victories in their last 10 matches in all competitions, has coincided with Manchester City's dramatic slump in form, and given Wenger's side a sniff at ousting the reigning champions for second place behind leaders Chelsea.
