From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A group of disillusioned Arsenal fans had raised over £3,000 to fly a plane with the banner “No new contract Wenger out” during the game with West Brom on Saturday afternoon.
But in a message posted on a club forum it has been confirmed that weather in the surrounding area around The Hawthorns has caused the move to be postponed at the last minute.
“Due to the adverse weather conditions expected in the Birmingham area tonight and tomorrow the plane with the banner has had to be postponed,” a short statement read.
“We will look at another date, time and venue in due course.”
Manager Wenger has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks with the Gunners’ form tailing off leaving their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League looking bleak.
Fans have protested against the Frenchman at a number of recent home games with the man himself continually questioned on whether or not he will leave the club this summer.
When asked once more about his future this week Wenger appeared exasperated with the continued scrutiny on his plans.
“I have nothing to say about that,” he said in his weekly press conference.
“Every press conference is about that, I have talked enough about that.”
