Andre Schurrle will get a Premier League winners' medal - after Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho texted him

Former Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle has revealed that he will get a Premier League winners' medal, after a text from former manager Jose Mourinho.

Schurrle left Stamford Bridge in January to return to Germany, moving to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg for £22million.

The winger, 24, played 14 matches in the Premier League for the Blues this season, scoring three goals, but didn't believe he would get a medal until receiving a text from the Portuguese manager.

"I didn't know that I'd get a medal when I didn't play most of the second half of the season," said Schurrle, speaking to the BBC World Service.

"Jose Mourinho sent me a text to say that I'd get a medal and he asked me to come to the last game. That was very nice for me."

Players must make five appearances to be eligible for a medal, but former team-mate Mohamed Salah has also been promised a medal despite only playing 30 minutes this season as the club have 40 medals to give away.

Schurrle insisted he was delighted for his former club and had no ill feelings at the way his time at Stamford Bridge ended.

"I'm really happy for the boys," he added. "They played a very good second half of the season so of course for it's good to get a medal but the boys did the work.

"I wanted to come back to the Bundesliga, I wanted to feel a little bit more in the team and to get a bit more playing time.

"I love Chelsea still, I'm not frustrated, it was a great experience."
