Yaya Toure was arrested after police allegedly clocked the Manchester City midfielder doing 124mph, it has been reported.

The Sun carried a picture of the 32-year-old footballer on the front page of their newspaper on Saturday as he got into a modified Porsche Cayenne. However, it is alleged that the incident in question came when the Ivory Coast international was behind the wheel of a Porsche 911.

Toure is believed to have been driving down the M6 motorway in Staffordshire when he was stopped by police having been recorded at 124mph. He is also alleged to have told police officers: “Don’t worry, someone at the club will sort this out. They will get all the paperwork.”

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: “At around 8.40pm on Wednesday 20 May, officers stopped a vehicle travelling at 124mph on the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 15 and 16.

"The driver, a 32-year-old man from Cheshire, will be reported for summons to appear at court on a future date.”

Toure, who earns £210,000-a-week and has been one of the standout Premier League footballers since joining City in 2010, was allowed to drive home but was told he must produce the relevant documents within a week of being stopped ahead of a court summons.

His future at City remains clouded in uncertainty with reports heavily linking him with a move to Inter Milan to join up with his former manager Roberto Mancini. Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk added fuel to the flames as he claimed a move to the Italian side is “90 per cent certain”, although the club have played done these comments.

The midfielder’s brother Kolo Toure, who looks set to leave Liverpool with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, was last week spared a ban for speeding twice within a week after his lawyers claimed a driving ban could lead to him being mobbed and pushed under a train while travelling on public transport.

When contacted by The Independent, no one from Manchester City was available for comment.
