The Croxteth-born goalscorer signed for United for £27m in August 2004 following an acrimonious departure from boyhood club Everton.
Since then Rooney has produced plenty of magical moments for the Red Devils, winning five league titles and climbing to fourth in the all-time top scorers list at Old Trafford.
But his England career has been dogged by frustration, as injuries and ill-discipline have stopped him having the impact he promised when he first burst onto the international scene.
And his club career has also had its controversial moments, as Rooney has threatened to leave United and fallen out with legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
