Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has been revealed as the Premier League manager who covers the most ground on the touchline.

McCarthy covers 36.1 miles every season as he strides up and down during games, according to research carried out by analysts to mark the launch of Football Manager 2011.

Newcastle's Chris Hughton was the next most energetic at 31.8 miles per season with north-east rival Steve Bruce of Sunderland third with 27.6 miles.

Stoke's Tony Pulis (21.2 miles) and Blackpool's Ian Holloway (17 miles) were fourth and fifth in that league - while the average distance covered by top-flight bosses on the sidelines was 15 miles per season.

The research analysed the number of steps taken by top-flight managers pacing the technical area, travelling to and from the dugouts and shifting around nervously.
