Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The incident occurred as Preston fans streamed onto the pitch to celebrate the winning goal in last night’s League Cup clash between the fierce local rivals.
The steward is believed to have been trying to shepherd fans off the pitch at Preston’s Deepdale Stadium, when a police horse knocked him to the ground.
Footage shows a second horse then approach the steward as he lies on the ground and clip him with its foot.
The steward was able to stand and walk away from the scene, but later had an X-ray in hospital to examine a shoulder injury.
Blackpool manager Paul Ince lashed out at the unsavoury finale, which ended in a 1-0 win for Preston following an 87th minute goal that fired up fans.
“We've seen goalkeepers get hit and players get punched. When are we going to learn? When you've got 200 Preston fans running on the pitch and my players are still on the pitch, who knows?”
Mr Ince added: “There's no control and is it going to take someone getting stabbed before we wake up and smell the coffee?“
