Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Steven Gerrard landed in Los Angeles with his wife Alex this weekend as he begins his adventure playing for the LA Galaxy in the MLS. Unlike the other favourite sons of Liverpool touching down in America, however, this was far from Beatlemania.
Only a handful of fans turned out to greet the 34-year-old stateside, where he signed a couple of shirts.
Gerrard recently returned from holiday in Ibiza, after ending 17 glorious years with his boyhood club.
The midfielder is expected to make his debut for the MLS club on 11 July against Club America.

His former club Liverpool, meanwhile, are expected to complete the signing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton this week. Clyne is undergoing a medical on Merseyside this week.
The Reds struck a fee with Southampton last week but have needed to remain patient to complete the switch due to the the England international having been away on holiday.
The 24-year-old right-back has since returned and is expected on Merseyside today.
Should everything go smoothly Clyne is expected to sign a five-year contract at Anfield and become the long-term successor to Glen Johnson whose contract ran out this summer.
