Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. With Stan Kroenke poised to seal a takeover of Arsenal after increasing his shareholding to 62.89 per cent we take a look at the other teams owned by the American businessman.
ST LOUIS RAMS
Kroenke acquired a 40% stake in the Rams when they relocated to Missouri in 1995. He became the sole owner of the franchise in 2010. The Rams enjoyed plenty of success around the turn of the Millennium as they claimed the Super Bowl crown in 1999 and lost out to the unfancied New England Patriots in 2001. But there have been no post-season play-off appearances since 2004.
DENVER NUGGETS
Kroenke became owner of the Nuggets in 2000 and, while they have yet to win a Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy, they have enjoyed some recent success by emerging as divisional winners in 2006, 2009 and 2010. Kroenke handed control of the Nuggets to his son Josh last year and has to give up his controlling stake by the end of 2014 to comply with NFL rules due to his ownership of the Rams.
COLORADO RAPIDS
Kroenke took control of the MLS side in 2004 but, as with the Nuggets, he has to relinquish his majority holding by 2014. The Rapids, who include former Hull striker Caleb Folan in their squad, are the reigning MLS champions after beating FC Dallas 2-1 in last year's final.
COLORADO MAMMOTH
Kroenke became owner of the National Lacrosse League outfit in 2004 and since his arrival they have proved to be moderately successful. They won the NLL Championship in 2006 and claimed their divisional title in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
COLORADO AVALANCHE
The Avalanche became part of the Kroenke Sports Enterprises group in 2000 and enjoyed success almost immediately as they secured the 2001 Stanley Cup and the Presidents' Trophy. Further divisional titles have followed in 2002 and 2003.
COLORADO CRUSH
Kroenke became a co-owner of the Arena Football outfit, along with Denver Broncos legend John Elway and Pat Bowlen in 2002. The Crush were hugely successful on the field winning titles in 2002, 2005 and 2006 to go with their 2000 and 2001 successes. However, they have ceased to exist since the Arena Football League suspended operations in 2009.
