From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Graeme Souness, the Blackburn Rovers manager, is in talks with Internazionale's Turkish international striker Hakan Sukur about a move to England.

Souness has offered Hakan a lucrative deal and the chance to play in the Premiership in the build-up to the World Cup finals. The experienced front man, who made his name at Istanbul's Galatasaray, is unsettled in Italy and out of the Inter side – putting his place in the Turkish team in jeopardy.

Souness admires the 30-year-old and is keen on a proven marksman who would come with a nominal fee, but with big wages. The deal will come down to what Hakan is prepared to accept in salary. He could earn around £30,000-per-week from Rover with possible bonuses on top.

Souness has been chasing a strike partner for Matt Jansen for weeks and was given cash to bid for Robbie Fowler before losing out on him to Leeds United. Jansen has been playing on his own in recent games and Souness only has Egil Ostenstad and Mark Hughes as options in attack.

The former Republic of Ireland striker John Aldridge is holding talks with the Dublin club Bohemians about taking over as their manager.

The Liverpool-born Aldridge, 43, resigned as the manager of Tranmere Rovers in March. His former Anfield team-mate Ronnie Whelan has pulled out of the running, while another former Irish international, Liam O'Brien, is in temporary charge of Bohemians.
