Daniel Ward scored after just 47 seconds to give Huddersfield a 1-0 win over Derby and goals from Matt Mills and Kevin Davies gave Bolton their second victory of the season, Owen Coyle's side beating Watford 2-1. Charlie Austin scored twice as Burnley moved out of the relegation zone with a 5-2 win against Peterborough, who are rooted to the bottom of the table.
League One
Managerless Coventry are still without a win after going down 2-0 at table-toppers Tranmere. The Sky Blues, who sacked Andy Thorn last month, have a three-man shortlist for the vacancy and expect to make an appointment next week.
At Boundary Park, debut goals from Matt Derbyshire and Jose Baxter earned Oldham a 2-2 against 10-man Notts County. Crewe striker Ajay Leitch-Smith scored twice in the opening eight minutes but goals from Luke Freeman and Robin Shroot rescued a point for Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium. Less than 24 hours after receiving bids from both the Pompey Supporters' Trust and former owner Balram Chainrai, Portsmouth were beaten 2-1 by Walsall.
League Two
Gillingham's imperious start to the season continued with a comfortable 4-0 victory over struggling Bristol Rovers, Martin Allen's side extending their lead at the top to three points.
Exeter lost ground after being held to a 1-1 draw by York at St James Park, allowing Port Vale to move into second with a 3-1 win at Plymouth. Andy Mangan scored an injury-time winner to give Fleetwood Town a 1-0 victory at home to Northampton, while a 3-0 defeat at Bradford leaves Barnet bottom of the table with just one point from their opening six games.
Scottish Premier League
Neil Lennon threatened to make wholesale changes for Celtic's Champions' League opener against Benfica after a 2-1 defeat at St Johnstone.
"If they are being complacent or cruising through games they won't play, that's not what they are paid for," said Lennon. "A lot of them had half an eye on Wednesday night and it is making me rethink my team. It was unacceptable."
Motherwell took advantage of Celtic's first defeat of the season, maintaining their one-point lead over Hibs at the top with a 2-1 victory at Dundee. Celtic lie fifth.
