From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Wolves have confirmed that new signing Roger Johnson has replaced Karl Henry as skipper for the 2010-2011 campaign.

It has been common knowledge that manager Mick McCarthy has been contemplating a change and he has opted for the former Birmingham defender.

Henry held the armband for three years but, with considerable competition for places in the Wolves midfield he is no longer guaranteed a regular spot.

McCarthy said: "I have decided to make the change and pass the armband onto Roger.

"I think it can be easier to captain the side from that position in the centre of defence where you can see everything in front of you and are perfectly placed to organise the team.

"Roger has carried that out successfully in the past and his leadership qualities will be of benefit to everyone."

McCarthy added: "I'd like to thank Karl who has carried out the job diligently and professionally.

"He will continue to be a key member of my team."

Johnson will skipper the side for the first time in Saturday's friendly with Real Zaragoza at Molineux.
