From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leicester City, who must decide on the fate of the ex-Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise following his latest falling-out with a team-mate, are ready to part with central defender Matt Elliott, according to the News of the World.

Unable to afford Elliott's £30,000-a-week wages, Leicester have given the player a free transfer, alerting Coventry, West Ham and Celtic. The same paper links West Ham with a fresh move for Leicester's Muzzy Izzet, but only if they drop their price to £4m from £6m. The People says West Ham are poised to sign the Irish Under-21 captain Thomas Butler, who is frustrated at his lack of opportunities at Sunderland.

The Sunday Mirror reckons both Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to tempt Chelsea with offers of £10m for striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, aware that the heavily debt-burdened London club have had no interest in Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at his £20m asking price. Meanwhile, Arsenal have received a discreet but serious inquiry from Middlesbrough about Francis Jeffers, said by the People to be interesting Steve McClaren as a potential partner for the Italian front man Massimo Maccarone.

The Mirror, which links the Sunderland defender Michael Gray with a £2.5m move to Bolton, also names the Reebok Stadium as a possible destination – along with Blackburn and Everton – for the Leeds defender Michael Duberry, said to feel he has no future at Elland Road under Terry Venables. The People, meanwhile, says Everton will turn to Arsenal's Richard Wright in their search for a goalkeeper if Derby do not accept their £3.5m offer for Mart Poom.

While the Derby manager John Gregory ponders a move for Birmingham's Tommy Mooney, the Mirror reckons West Bromwich Albion will bid for Mooney's St Andrews team-mate Geoff Horsfield after accepting that Lee Hughes will not be returning to the Hawthorns. The News of the World says Albion are poised to sign the South African World Cup midfielder Macbeth Sibaya.

The Mirror says Tottenham have made Fulham's £5m-rated midfielder Sean Davis a target and that Hamilton Ricard, not offered a new contract by Middlesbrough, wants to stay in the Premiership.
