The Italian international is likely to be at the top of Claudio Ranieri's January shopping list but the People says his arrival could spark major changes at Stamford Bridge, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink possibly heading to Barcelona and question marks over whether both Adrian Mutu and Hernan Crespo could be accommodated in a new system.
The News of the World reckons Chelsea fans may have a shock coming anyway, reporting that Mutu has a secret agreement to fulfil a boyhood dream by joining Steaua Bucharest in two years' time, despite signing a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Aston Villa are linked with two strikers by the Sunday Mirror, which claims that their manager, David O'Leary, could snatch Michael Bridges from Leeds for a bargain £500,000 and also links Villa with Club Bruges' Norwegian forward Rune Lange.
Sylvain Wiltord, for whom Arsenal paid Bordeaux £13m, could leave Highbury for nothing, according to the News of the World, which says the Frenchman is unhappy not to have been offered a new long-term contract by the Gunners. Bordeaux could re-sign the 29-year-old striker, although Monaco are also said to be interested.
Bolton's Nigerian midfielder, Jay-Jay Okocha, could be a target for Tottenham (News of the World) or Celtic (Sunday Express) when his contract expires. The People says Celtic are also preparing to offer West Ham £1.5m for the goalkeeper David James.
Newcastle are planning a £3m move for the Rangers full-back Michael Ball, according to the Mirror, while the News of the World reckons the Newcastle defender Andy Griffin is bound for Birmingham for a nominal £100,000.
