From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Following England's qulaification for next summer's World Cup, we asked you how far Roy Hodgson's side will progress in Brazil.

Despite the two encouraging victories over Monetenegro and Poland, just 7 per cent believe England will reach the final at the Maracana in Rio. However, it would seem readers are optimistic should England make it that far, with just 1 per cent suggesting they would fall at the final hurdle and the other 6 per cent believing England would clinch only their second ever World Cup victory.

The majority of readers believe England will fall at the Round-of-16 stage, with 41 per cent voting for that outcome. 38 per cent think England will go one stage further and reach the quarter-finals.

With 6 per cent backing England to reach the semi-finals that leaves just 8 per cent who think Steven Gerrard and co will fail to make it out of their group.

With the Three Lions being unseeded for the group stage draw and a potentially tricky path to the knock out stage, that 92 per cent expect England to progress from the first phase may hint at some growing optimism around the national team.
