From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Patrice Evra has sparked an outcry on social media after caressing, licking, spanking and biting into an uncooked chicken in a bizarre Instagram video celebrating Thanksgiving.

The video sees Evra take an unexpectedly sensual approach to raw poultry, while the song Slow Motion by Kirko Bangz plays in the background. He gently licks a leg and suggestively sprinkles salt over the meat before slapping it and appearing to take a bite.

The former Manchester United, Juventus and West Ham left-back then shouts: “I love this game! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!” before laughing maniacally. The caption on his post reads: “I know it’s tomorrow but for mister #ilovethisgame it’s Thanksgiving everyday.”

Evra’s quirky social media videos are well known, but this particular post has caused plenty of bemusement – and some disgust – online. Lewis Hamilton was among those to give his reaction, commenting: “Not gonna lie, this is weird.”

The 37-year-old subsequently added a post on his Instagram story, saying: “Guys, enjoy your lives – stop being boring. And to all the vegan people, I don’t say anything when you are eating all the grass in my garden. Leave it for the cows, they need to eat as well!”
