Your support makes all the difference.Nicolas Anelka has taken his first step into management after being named player-manager for Indian Super League team Mumbai City.
The controversial striker, 36, played for the side during the league's inaugural campaign last year, where he scored two goals in seven matches.
The Frenchman, who played for six Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, was sacked by West Browich Albion in February 2014 after using the anti-semitic 'quenelle' gesture.
Anelka is also Mumbai City's marquee player, similar to the designated player status that has seen many stars ply their trade in Major League Soccer in the US.
The Indian Super League contains a few recognisable names, with former Arsenal and England midfielder David Platt in charge at Pune City, one-time England manager Peter Taylor at Kerala Blasters, Brazil legend Zico at Goa and controversial former Italy defender Marco Materazzi at Chennaiyin.
Former England No 1 David James had a player-manager spell in the league last season.
"I would like to say thank you to the Mumbai City FC staff for giving me the opportunity to coach the club," Anelka said in a statement.
"We are all very excited to start this new season. I'm personally very eager to take on this new role for the club and put a strong competitive team on the pitch."
