Cristiano Ronaldo has led a host of sports stars and clubs in sending messages of condolence and strength to victims of the Mexico City earthquake.

More than 200 people have died following the 7.1 magnitude quake which struck the Mexican capital on Tuesday afternoon.

People across the world have been using the hashtag #FuerzaMexico ('Strength to Mexico') on social media to show support to those affected by the disaster.

Ronaldo and Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos sent their condolences on Twitter, along with Mexico and West Ham United footballer Javier Hernandez and Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez.

Real Madrid announced they will hold a minute's silence in their match against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

“I feel very shaken at the moment,” Moreno said.

“Words can't describe the pain I feel in seeing my people caught up in this tragedy. My thoughts are with all the families affected by the earthquake and my thanks go to the rescuers, who are doing an exceptional job. Fuerza Mexico.”
