Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Just like last season, Liverpool will start the next campaign without their talisman Luis Suarez after the striker was given a four-month ban from all football activity for biting Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 win over Italy.
Suarez was handed the four-month ban by Fifa in addition to his nine-match international suspension, meaning he will not be able to play for the club again until after 26 October.
This means that the 27-year-old striker will miss the first nine Premier League matches of the season, as well as three Champions League group stage ties, and one Capital One Cup fixture.
The match Suarez is expected to return for is Newcastle United at St James' Park in the league on 1 November.
Liverpool games Suarez will miss:
16 August: Southampton (h)
23 August: Manchester City (a)
30 September: Tottenham Hotspur (a)
13 September: Aston Villa (h)
16/Wednesday 17 September: Champions League group game
20 September: West Ham United (a)
23/Wednesday 24 September: Capital One Cup third round
27 October: Everton (h)
30 September/Wednesday 1 October: Champions League group game
4 October: West Bromwich Albion (h)
18 October: Queens Park Rangers (a)
21/Wednesday 22 October: Champions League group game
25 October: Hull City (h)
Suarez missed the first six matches of the season for Liverpool last term, as he continued to serve his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013.
Liverpool and the Uruguay FA can appeal, however, even if the appeal is lodged and the process is under way he will not be able play in any matches.
Liverpool are biding their time before deciding their next move.
"Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the Fifa Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment," said a statement from chief executive Ian Ayre.
