Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Arsenal and Leeds will be unseeded for Wednesday's draw for the fourth round of the Uefa Cup, leaving them likely to face tough opposition.
European football's ruling body has seeded eight of the 16 teams on the basis of club's performances in past European competitions. This has left Arsenal and Leeds among the group of eight unseeded teams for the draw in Geneva, along with Real Mallorca, Celta Vigo, Lens, Werder Bremen, Udinese and Galatasaray.
Although Arsenal only just missed out on being seeded, both managers, Arsÿne Wenger and David O'Leary, will have to pit their wits against a top seed. These are Parma, the holders, Juventus, Roma, Borussia Dortmund, Deportivo La Coruña, Monaco, Atletico Madrid, and Slavia Prague.
A Uefa committee will meet tomorrow to divide the 16 clubs into two groups, with each one containing four seeded and four unseeded teams, and to separate clubs from the same country. Matches will be played on 2 and 9 March.
Colin Hendry, Scotland's captain has admitted he will never play for Rangers again. The 34-year-old defender, who moved to Ibrox for £4m for Blackburn less than 18 months ago, has made only three appearances this term.
Hendry said: "I could have moved to Derby, but it fell through because I wouldn't agree to a clause about them being relegated being in my contract."
