Moments after being handed the trinket at the top of the steps at Wembley, the Chelsea manager threw it to a young Arsenal fan in the crowd at the national stadium.
Mourinho, who said after the match that he felt the better side had lost, explained in his press match conference why he gave it away.
“I don't want the medal,” he said. “I don't keep the ones I win, so what do you think about the ones I lose?!”
The win for Arsenal over last season's Premier League champions will be seen as a psychological boost to the club's title ambitions.
