A betting firm has sparked outrage after it targeted the girlfriend of Manchester United striker James Wilson in a shocking tweet.

The Australian betting firm posted a picture of the Manchester United youngster holding hands with his partner as they arrived for the club's awards dinner on Tuesday night.

The image on the Oddschecker Au Twitter feed was accompanied with the words: "Sure she's a lovely girl but someone needs to remind James Wilson he's a pro fooballer.

"Start abusing this privilege."

The tweet, which was posted last night, caused a furious reaction on the social media site and was quickly removed.

Oddschecker Australia then apologised.

19-year-old Wilson has made 16 appearances for Manchester United this season.
