From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leicester City have awarded their experienced pair of midfielders, Nicky Summerbee and Billy McKinlay, extended contracts which will run until the end of the season.

Summerbee, who previously played for Manchester City, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest, and the former Dundee United, Blackburn Rovers and Bradford City player McKinlay both joined the impoverished First Division club last summer and initially played on a non-contract basis without pay. They were later awarded three-month contracts and these deals have now been extended.

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a bid for the Dynamo Kiev defender Andrei Husin. The 30-year-old Ukraine international will apparently be made available for a fee of about £2.5 million as Dynamo try to reduce their debts when the transfer window opens next month. The Magpies may also be offered Husin's defensive partner Tiberiu Ghioane.

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make a £2m bid for the Turkish international goalkeeper Rustu Recber. The Gunners' two understudies to David Seaman, Stuart Taylor and Rami Shaaban, are both injured.

Shaaban broke his leg in training before Christmas, which may force Arsenal into the transfer market in pursuit of a new goalkeeper earlier than planned. They had been tipped to move for the 29-year-old Rustu, who plays for Fenerbahce, in the summer.

In the week's second managerial change in the Nationwide Conference, the Leigh RMI manager Steve Waywell has resigned after eight years in charge at Hilton Park.

Waywell has moved to the UniBond League club Hyde United, who have dismissed the former England and Manchester United winger Gordon Hill. On Boxing Day Wayne Turner was sacked by Stevenage Borough.
