The former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has become player-coach of Thailand Premier League side Muangthong United. Fowler signed a one-year contract to play for the club in July, after a spell in the Australian A-League.

However, with Muangthong being knocked out of the AFC Cup by Kuwait this week, it was decided action had to be taken. A Muangthong statement read: "The board have appointed Robbie Fowler as the acting head coach. The contract is until the end of the season and the team must adapt to long-term goals if it is to succeed in Asia."
