From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The England striker has scored 21 goals for his new club this season after departing White Hart Lane for £10m last summer, but Redknapp believes the club remain well stocked in the striking department. "Darren's had a terrific season," Redknapp said. "It's been a great move for him and it's done him the world of good. But it was time for him to move. It wasn't only me, before I came he wasn't playing regularly. My strikers have done well as well."
Spurs welcome back Jermain Defoe for today's match after the striker missed three matches with a hamstring injury.
Allardyce eager for Pedersen to sign
Blackburn Rovers: Manager Sam Allardyce is confident midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen will sign a new deal at Ewood Park. The 28-year-old's current contract expires in the summer and Allardyce has urged the Norwegian to put pen to paper. "Morten has suggested he wants to stay," Allardyce said, "If that's the case, get it done and dusted – don't leave the door ajar for somebody to step in."
Pedersen has spent six years at the club, playing 235 games and scoring 38 goals, and Allardyce is wary of interest from other clubs. "I'm not bothered how it's done, just as long as it's done as quickly as possible." Rovers travel to Portsmouth this afternoon looking to cement their place in the top half of the table.
