Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brighton secured the League One title with a 3-1 win at struggling Walsall on Saturday. The Seagulls had already clinched promotion to the Championship last week and got off to a fine start at the Banks's Stadium when Inigo Calderon put them ahead in the sixth minute with a header.

The hosts levelled five minutes later with Andy Butler heading home Matthew Richards' corner, but the Saddlers were behind again after the break through Glenn Murray's close-range header, his 22nd goal of the season.

Walsall's Emmanuel Ledesma earned a red card for a professional foul on Adam El-Abd with 11 minutes left before Elliott Bennett added a third in the 90th minute.

A late goal by Guly Do Prado saw Southampton claim a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers to keep them in the automatic promotion places.

Derby draw was key, Warnock says

QPR welcome Derby to Loftus Road tonight with manager Neil Warnock highlighting the draw against Nigel Clough's side in August as a crucial point in their promotion push.

The two sides met at Pride Park in the fourth game of the season when injury-time goals from Patrick Agyemang and Jamie Mackie secured a 2-2 draw and maintained QPR's unbeaten start to the season.

"I think it was the main moment of the season," Warnock said. "I think it turned everything around in the space of three minutes. We were outplayed on the day and the players went from being disappointed, miserable and doubting themselves to believing we could come back against anybody if we keep going."

Sanchez signs up for Barnet rescue

Lawrie Sanchez has joined Barnet as a consultant until the end of the season as the club try to avoid relegation from the Football League. The former Wycombe, Northern Ireland and Fulham manager will assist caretaker manager Giuliano Grazioli, who took over when Martin Allen walked out to join Notts County last week.

Barnet are second-bottom, three points from safety, and Sanchez said: "I've come in to help Giuliano with the big task of helping Barnet off the bottom rungs of League Two." Grazioli said: "This is an opportunity for me to learn from someone with experience at Premiership and international level."
