The 25-year-old, part of Liverpool's squad for their tour of the Far East, said: "I'd like to thank the manager for bringing me here. Some of the best players in the world are at this club so if I can learn from them I am going to improve."
Pearce signs new U21 deal
Stuart Pearce has signed a new two-year contract to remain as England Under-21 manager, the FA announced yesterday. Pearce, 49, has led the Under-21s into three successive European Under-21 Championships.
Woodgate signs for the Potters
Stoke City yesterday completed the free transfer signing of defender Jonathan Woodgate, who joins on a one-year deal after his contract at Tottenham expired. The 31-year-old former England international started out at Leeds before having spells with Newcastle, Real Madrid and Middlesbrough in a career blighted by injury.
McCarthy to sign Johnson
Wolves are close to signing Birmingham defender Roger Johnson after agreeing a fee of £7m. Johnson held talks and underwent a medical yesterday. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy failed with a £3m bid for Reading defender Matt Mills.
