Football fans begin 92 grounds in 92 hours challenge
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A whistlestop tour to every football league ground aims to raise money for the game at a grass roots children's level.
Getting to an away ground on matchday can be hard enough, getting to 92 of them in the same number of hours is somewhat trickier.
However, four football fans - Matt Bigg (Spurs), Kris Babb (Liverpool), Simon Dickerson (Leeds) and Colin Bigg (Spurs) - will set out from Watford FC this morning and hope to make it to Brighton for the 3pm kickoff against Huddersfield on April 30, 92 hours later.
Their main goal is to raise money for Harvesters FC, a children's football club in St Albans, Hertfordshire, which provides football for over 400 boys and girls, including the Harvesters Inclusive disabilities section. The club, where Matt Bigg's eight-year-old son Alfie plays, relies entirely on donations for kit, coach fees, equipment and general management.
“This is about supporting grass roots football," said Matt. "Harvesters is becoming a hotbed of some great footballing talent, but in these difficult times we need some extra help to keep up the good work. A lot of fans have started to fear that our young players may lose some of their excitement and passion for the game so we hope this challenge will help put young footballers back on the map and encourage clubs like ours all over the country.”
You can follow their progress on Twitter at @mattbigg and on foursquare (mattbigg) or donate via their blog at http://92grounds92hours.blogspot.com. All money raised will go to Harvesters FC since all costs for the trip such as petrol have been covered by sponsors.
