Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Football Association will announce later today whether the Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, or West Ham United's Alan Pardew will be charged following their touchline altercation at Upton Park on Sunday afternoon.

The FA is examining further video footage of the incident after receiving reports from the referee, Rob Styles, and the fourth official, Andy D'Urso. It is thought unlikely, however, that either manager will be charged although the episode is mentioned in the reports of both officials - as are further incidents in the tunnel following the game.

At the same time the FA has written to West Ham about another incident during the match when a coin struck the Arsenal striker Robin van Persie on the head in front of the main stand.

West Ham have been given a week to reply and as long as they can prove there was sufficient stewarding - and that they have examined CCTV footage to try to identify the culprit - then sanctions are unlikely. If the supporter is identified he will face a police banning order.
