From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Maradona has been taking potshots at Argentina’s current manager Sergio Batista all though the 2011 Copa America. Last night it was different type of coach he collided with.
While Batista’s Argentina were taking care of Costa Rica and seeing their odds on winning the Copa America slashed, Maradona was doing some damage of his own.
The World Cup winner ploughed his 4x4 Honda into a bus in the neighbourhood of El Trébol in his hometown. Following the crash, passengers on the bus looked out of their windows to see Maradona and his girlfriend Verónica Ojeda being taken off to hospital.
Maradona sustained injuries to his ankle and knee on his left leg while Verónica bruised a hip. The former Napoli man’s personal physician Alfredo Cahe revealed “neither of the couple’s injuries were serious.”
Oscar Sico at the hospital that looked over the pair also confirmed that the trip to see the doctors was merely a precaution.
“The two patients are in perfect condition with no signs of any trauma evident. They were able to return home just a few hours after arriving at the hospital.”
Maradona has been no stranger to hospitals in the past couple of weeks as his mother Doña Tota continues to fight against a grave illness.
It’s also not the first time Maradona has been driven to distraction and crashed into a bus. Just over a decade ago the Argentinian star was receiving drug rehabilitation treatment in Cuba when he wrote off a car after crashing into a bus in Habana.
