Chris Coleman, the Fulham manager, spent a second night in hospital last night and is unlikely to take charge of tomorrow's Premiership match against Manchester United.
The source of the virus, which has laid the 33-year-old low for the past three days, has been identified, although not made public, and he is likely to receive antibiotics via an intravenous drip for the next 24 hours to clear it up.
Coleman's condition has "substantially improved" but a Fulham spokesman added: "Rest is prescribed. It does not seem like something that you recover from within 24 hours, although physically he is feeling much better."
The infection forced Coleman to miss Tuesday's FA Cup win against West Ham United. He was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning, when he was described as "very ill". The assistant manager, Steve Kean, will remain in charge in Coleman's absence.
