Haringey Council has attacked Tottenham's plan to leave the borough and relocate to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford as a "desertion". Tottenham will discover next week whether they or West Ham United have secured preferred bidder status for the 2012 stadium.

If successful, Tottenham would leave the ground where they have played since 1899, despite receiving planning permission to develop the Northumberland Park site. The local council has defended its role in the process and said any move by the club would "destroy decades of history".
