At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The BBC today announced that a second season of Class of 92: Out of their League has been commissioned for a second series.
The programme followed the former Manchester United players Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Gary and Phil Neville's ownership of Salford City FC, the non-league football club bought by the famous ex-players.
The first series, which aired last autumn, depicted the ups and downs of the Old Trafford favourites as they underwent their first season as new owners of Salford City FC, offering an insight into the dynamic between the players central to Manchester United's most successful ever period under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The documentary should provide some insight into how Gary Neville is balancing his involvement in the club with his new role as manager of Valencia. Brother Phil is also working at the Spanish club. Meanwhile Butt has become head of Manchester United's academy and Giggs and Scholes remain assistant Manchester United manager and pundit respectively.
The new two-part series will air on BBC One later this year.
Patrick Holland, Head of BBC Documentaries and said: "The original series took us to the heart of a community where much was at stake as the new owners took over. Not only was it hugely entertaining, it also explored the often difficult relationship between tradition and progress that resonated with the wider audience. We are very excited to return to Salford for another season of highs and lows.”
