Connor Brown, 23, was suspended by Sheffield United in April 2012 after a rape charity complained about several posts made on the player's personal Twitter account relating to Evans' five-year sentence.
Following the trial, North Wales police investigated allegations that the victim was named on Twitter and other websites. However, there was no suggestion that Brown breached the lifelong anonymity entitled to victims of sexual assault, and he later removed the posts.
The defender was released by United in summer 2012, before being offered a contract by Oldham for the 2012/13 season, and he remains at the club.
Brown has made 64 appearances for the Latics, although he has spent the last two months on loan at Carlisle, who sit 22nd in League Two.
Evans is expected to join Oldham this week after the PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor revealed a League One club will hold a press conference on Monday regarding his signing.
The Welsh striker remains without a club after a proposed return to Sheffield United collapsed following strong local opposition, while Tranmere and Hartlepool passed on the chance to sign the 26-year-old.
