From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The internet erupted after Charlie Adam's 65-yard wonder-goal against Chelsea yesterday, former England cricketer Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff offered the best quip, labelling Adam as "a bloke who looks like a bus driver who scored from his own half".

The league leaders Chelsea were unfazed by the spectacular effort which beat Thibaut Courtois though, and recovered to win 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Adam said after the match: "I never knew I had that much power, to beat a quality goalkeeper like that is something special. One that I will always remember. It was one of them that sat up nicely and I saw the goalie off his line. I was lucky enough that it went in. Once in a lifetime this can happen to you, it's great on an individual level - a great way to get my 50th goal in English football - but the team lost and that is the disappointing thing."

The best reaction....

Adam thanked everyone for their kind words later on last night too...

His former club, Blackpool, were quick to remind everyone that it wasn't even the first time he scored such an outrageous goal...
