Your support makes all the difference.David Beckham is considering offers to train with top Premier League clubs during January to stay fit, should he be required for the England squad at Euro 2008 – however distant that possibility may be.
The 32-year-old's first season with the Los Angeles Galaxy came to a halt on Sunday night when his side failed to qualify for the Major League Soccer end-of-season play-offs. An injury-time defeat to Chicago Fire meant that Beckham will not play competitive football for the MLS side until April.
Beckham is hoping to be in the England squad for the final Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on 21 November as well as the friendly against Austria six days earlier. After that he has two friendly matches in LA Galaxy's tour of Australia and New Zealand. Then two months off.
With no possibility of a loan, Beckham at least has offers to train with what are understood to be big Premier League clubs. While none has been named, the most convenient would be Arsenal, whose training ground is in Hertfordshire, where Beckham also has his country house.
Chelsea would surely also be in the running. Failing that, Ipswich Town – where the former LA Galaxy coach Frank Yallop once played – have already made an offer. Beckham had always intended to spend the close season in England. "I'm a person that likes to train every day," Beckham said. "That's the way it's been through my whole career for the last 15 years. I'll be keeping on training and keeping fit no matter what."
