Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has met with the fan who he rescued from the police in Chile last week.
Last week, the supporter was held by police officers as she tried to cross the road to get near to the striker. When he noticed this, Sanchez calmly turned back, spoke to the police and gave the fan what she wanted - a nice picture (watch video below). And the lucky fan has some new pictures now as well.
The 26-year-old is over in Chile ahead of the Copa America, which starts on 11 June in his native country.
Sanchez posted some pictures of him with the fan on his Twitter account today, and also revealed that he gave her some gifts.

At a press conference ahead of Chile’s first Copa America match on Friday, Sanchez conceded “I would have liked to be in the Champions League final or to have won the Premier League title. I believe we have a bunch of skillful players so to not achieve more is disappointing.”
