Manchester City have today announced the signing of striker Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla, becoming their third signing of the summer so far. But what do we actually know about the Spanish striker? Here's a brief insight into who Alvaro Negredo is.
Name: Álvaro Negredo Sánchez
Age: 27
Height: 1.86 m (6 ft 1 in)
Nickname: La fiera de Vallecas (The beast of Vallecas). Vallecas is a neighborhood of Madrid.
Negredo started his career at Rayo Vallecano, making his professional debut in 2005 at the age of 19 with the team in Segunda División B. He then made a switch to Real Madrid, where he failed to play for the first team, but did impress then manager Fabio Capello to make the bench in a few Copa del Rey matches.
In 2007 he moved to Almeria with Madrid having the option to re-buy. Negredo scored 32 goals in 70 games becoming their top goalscorer in the 07/08 season. In 2009 Madrid were looking to re-buy Negredo, but eventually he moved to Sevilla for €15m, but again Madrid had an option to re-buy the player in the first two years. Hull City were also reportedly interested in the player at the time.
The 27-year-old managed to find the net 70 times in 139 games for Los Rojiblanco and did pick up a Copa del Rey winners medal with the club in 2010.
Negredo has 14 caps for Spain scoring six goals and featured at Euro 2012 and most recently the Confederations Cup in Brazil last month.
