When Ryan Giggs came off the bench in the Champions League tie against Shakhtar Donetsk, the Manchester United midfielder became the all-time leading appearance holder in the European competition.

The Welshman had been tied with Raul on 144 appearances but now leads the way among a top ten that read like a list of whose who in the Champions League era.
