After securing the Double last Tuesday with a 2-0 win at Bristol City Women, Emma Hayes’ team signed off in style as Ji So-yun fired two late goals at Prenton Park on Sunday afternoon to secure a 3-2 win against their Liverpool hosts.
The Blues’ undefeated record was under serious threat after Jess Clarke and Niamh Charles put the home side ahead within the opening nine minutes. But, channelling the resilience they’ve showcased for much of the season, Chelsea were rewarded for their efforts in the 71st minute with an Eni Aluko goal.
Ji’s efforts wrapped up proceedings with six minutes left on the clock to hand Chelsea a thrilling victory away from home.
Chelsea end the 18-game season with 13 wins and five draws, finishing six points clear of Manchester City who secured second place thanks to a 3-0 win at home against Everton.
A brace from Jill Scott and a close-range volley from Nikita Parris ensured City pipped Arsenal to the second European qualification spot on offer.
Arsenal Ladies, in third, ran out 6-1 winners at Bristol City, but the victory for City guaranteed it will be Nick Cushing's side who join Chelsea in Europe next term.
Elsewhere, Sunderland Ladies beat Yeovil Town Ladies 2-1, thanks to goals from Keira Rmashaw and Bridget Galloway, while the meeting between Birmingham City Ladies and Reading Women ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
