Newcastle United entertain West Ham United in the early kick-off on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
Steve Bruce guided the Magpies to survival last season, though there were struggles along the way, and it could be another season battling near the bottom given the relative lack of investment until Joe Willock’s permanent move from Arsenal was finalised. David Moyes would love even one signing of that magnitude, after bemoaning a lack of recruits, having taken the Hammers to the brink of Champions League football last season before settling for a place in this season’s Europa League, while finishing above Arsenal and Tottenham.
And Jarrod Bowen is determined to make last season the new normal for West Ham: “What happened last season is done now. All our focus is on the new season. I feel like we will put in a good performance. Obviously, it’s the first game of the season and we want to get off on the right foot, but with what we did last season, we want to carry that form into the start of the season.
“It was obviously an unbelievable season for us to get 65 points and European football here. There was even talk at one stage about getting into the Champions League, which is a remarkable achievement for us coming from avoiding relegation the previous year. The Champions League wasn’t meant to be, but we still got Europa League, so it’s going to be good for me personally - something I have never experienced before. It’ll be really good to play in that and hopefully have a good run in it.”

The star takes the set piece but the kick is well judged by Ederson who comes out and catches the ball.
City now building from deep. They have ten minutes to find an equaliser.

Son passes a slick ball to Moura who runs upfield. Fernandinho then does well to slow the Spurs star. Moura goes to the floor which gives City a window for changes
De Bruyne and Zinchencko comes on for Mahrez and Mendy
Premier League: Tottenham 1-0 Man City
76 min: Tottenham make a change as Bergwijn comes off for Lo Celso.
Bergwijn played a huge part in the goal and almost doubled Spurs lead a few minutes later. A good shift.
Premier League: Tottenham 1-0 Man City
75 min: Lloris has done so well to save that Grealish attempt.
Jesus passed to the new signing and seeing no one in the box went for the shot himself. The keeper got a hand to it and then collected.
It hasn’t been a bad game for the £100m man.

73 min: Moura does well in a battle with Mendy as he wins a free kick in the corner.
Son takes the kick but Moura’s attempt is blocked.

72 min: Tanganga gets a great pass to Dele which leads to a throw in.
Tanganga has done so well against Sterling and Grealish and now he is contributing to the attacking play.
Premier League: Tottenham 1-0 Man City
68 min: Dele fouls Mahrez to give City a free kick on the edge of the box.
Mahrez takes the kick and passes to Cancelo. Torres comes in to get to it but he can’t quite get to it.
Sterling now makes way for Jesus.

67 min: Fernandinho passes a great ball but Tanganga does so well to head it away to deal with another City threat.
The defending champions are building back into this match.

YELLOW CARD! Tottenham 1-0 Man City
66 min: Grealish wins the ball back and Moura then brings him down - the fifth foul on Grealish.
Moura sees yellow after he refused to give the ball back to City.
Premier League: Tottenham 1-0 Man City
64 min: Mahrez hits the ball into the box but again the ball is played out - this time by a City player.
Spurs have done well to keep them out in that spell.
