Newcastle have issued a statement on their club website to confirm that John Carver will remain temporary manager until the end of the season after "two days of frank dialogue" between him, the board and the senior players.

The club issued a statement on Monday afternoon that read: “Following the result at Leicester City on Saturday, there has been two days of frank dialogue with John Carver and senior players.

“The outcome of those discussions is that the board, John Carver, his staff and players are absolutely focused on our current situation and the three hugely-important fixtures that remain this season, two of which are at St. James' Park.

“All parties accept responsibility for the current situation but are determined, together, to ensure this Club - your Club - retains its Premier League status.

“That is the only focus at this time.”

The 3-0 defeat to Leicester on Saturday, which saw both Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat sent-off for the Magpies, handed Carver’s side their eighth-straight defeat, a run that stands as the worst in the club’s history.

Carver even accused Williamson of deliberately picking up a second yellow card to get himself dismissed so that he would not have to play in their next two matches, and while Williamson apologised for his lack of judgement, he rejected any possibility of fouling Leicester Jamie Vardy on purposed and did not mention Carver in his response.
